A Country With A Crisis

The United States of America is a country in crisis. The amount of gun violence that takes place within its borders is staggering. The amount of hatred they exhibit to one another is staggering. The country is unsafe. Is it because of their lack of gun-control laws, or because the people believe the only solution to their problems is by killing? A little of both, I think. It’s staggering.

In 2021 there were 629 mass-shootings (multiple victims) in the United States. 629!!! That’s an average of 1.5 times every day! That number tells me that someone in the United States will pick up a gun and attack a random group of people, today! It’s crazy! No other country has this happen within its borders, with the kind of regularity that the US does! What is wrong with these people???

It’s not like other countries have not faced the type of incidence that the United States faces. The difference is that other countries took action to make it stop, and prevent it from happening in the future. Countries, whose lawmakers asked themselves the question, “What person, outside the Armed Forces, needs to own an assault rifle?” Then came up with a sane answer… No one!!! In the United States they give them as birthday presents!! It’s insanity!!

Every other country out there has taken some kind of action to get the guns out of the hands of crazies, but not the Americans. They hide behind their 2nd amendment rights, the right to bear arms (or is it bare arms?). Americans use their constitution as justification for an eighteen-year-old being permitted to buy an assault rifle, at a gun show!! With nothing more than a street address!! And you wonder why bad shit happens in the United States.

The United States of America is a country that believes that violence is the answer, and they teach this to their young. Retribution through violence or protection through violence, pick one. You have a grievance, bring a gun. Strange noises at night, sleep with a gun. The need to own and use guns is part of the American fabric. They’ve never stopped viewing themselves as cowboys or gangsters, using guns to make a statement.

I understand that bad things happen all around the world on a daily basis, and no country is immune. But the United States seems so entangled in their own politics, that they are unable to take steps forward to help themselves. Their convoluted government system makes even a simple background check, before giving Johnny an AK-47 and 10,000 rounds of ammunition, impossible to legislate. What does it take to look at Johnny’s social media posts and see where Johnny’s mind is at, before handing over 30 magazines? The Americans can’t even agree to do that!

No other country has this problem. No other country has a problem not selling Johnny an AK-47, or his parents one either, for that matter! No other country has a problem saying that assault rifles are not okay and should not be a normal arm-bearing thing. No other country has a problem taking action to help prevent these tragedies from happening and because of that, no other country experiences the number of mass-shootings that the United States does.

The United States of America is a country in crisis, and managing a crisis is not what the Americans do well, just look at what COVID-19 did to them.
